New Google Street View Camera?

While in San Francisco we came across an unmarked Google Prius with a nontraditional street view camera. Is this Google’s new street view technology or a condensed version of their traditional street view camera?

DSLR 1FPS Interval Timelapse

Posted in Blog, Experiment, Sacramento River, clouds, dslr, interval, remote, timelapse on February 14th, 2010

Timelapses has always been my passion but it seems I never shoot enough. My timelapse emptiness is about to change. I recently ordered an interval remote and immediately drove to the Sacramento River to shoot a couple experimental clips. I shot at 1fps, batch processed the photos through Lighroom, and complied a 24fps timeline. The outcome from the quick experiment is above. I am currently in the process of building a new timelapse rig for a few upcoming sunset, stars, and moon adventures in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and Northern-California Valley. Behind the scenes photos and clips from the shoots will be posted. As always, I am open for collaboration and if you want to join a shoot lets set-up a trip.

Canon 7D – Night Footage – High ISO

Posted in Blog, Canon 7D, Experiment, High ISO, Parking Garage on February 2nd, 2010

Recently I had a chance to shoot an experimental video with Canon’s 7D digital SLR camera in extreme low light and foggy conditions. The goal was to push the 7D to the limits in 100% ambient light. The results from the video experiment is above shot with a Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 lens at 2500-3200ISO. Overall the video quality was impressive and outperformed any conventional video camera I have filmed with in low-light conditions. But the video quality at 1600-3200 ISO is rather noisy. If the 7D is on your acquisition list get a set of 16mm-135mm  f/1.2- f/2.0 prime lenses because you can shoot wide-open in low light with nonexistent noise at 800 ISO and increased depth of field. The 7D is ideal for any production and is already used for music videos, commercials, indie films, and documentaries. A special thanks to Derek Sine for joining the experiment. I am a Nikon guy with an arsenal of Nikon gear that could be on eBay if Nikon can’t release a Canon 7D equivalent.

AcceptPay – Webkey – Business Card Inspiration?

Posted in Blog, Inspiration on January 29th, 2010

accpetpay
A few weeks ago I received an American Express AcceptPay promotion in the mail. Usually promotions go straight to the trash but something was different. It was a USB webkey. The American Express webkey is extremely basic with an autorun script to the AccpetPay website. But it did spark an idea to use webkeys for business cards with your demo reel, portfolio, vCard, resume, or a mini-website with links to social networking sites eliminating the famous search on Google, Facebook, Twitter, Vimeo, Linkedin… Webkeys can be found with 64MB to 8GB of storage allowing endless possibility. If you are looking for a new business card with increased efficiency a webkey could be an idea.

ChicoGrid: Sierra Nevada Brewery

Posted in Blog, Chico Grid, Online, Sierra Nevada Brewery, Video on December 3rd, 2009

Last Monday, we headed over to the victorious Sierra Nevada Brewery. I have been to the brewery many times but not behind the scenes to see their magic in crafting beers. If you have heard of Chico, Sierra Nevada Brewery could be one of the reasons. The set-up for the shoot was basic, due to time constraints and destination of the final video, we shot with the Panasonic HMC150, 1 MicroPro LED lightpannel, Sennheiser lavalier wireless, Bogen tripod, and a DIY steadycam. I will posting more about my DIY and gear in feature posts. But for now, grab a beer and enjoy one of the pioneers in craft brewing.
